When you google “how to send an iTunes book as a gift,” you’ll find many posts that say it can’t be done, including this post by CNET as recently as 10 days ago. This might have been in the case with IOS6, when book givers only had the option of sending an iTunes gift card with no link to the actual book or app you wanted to gift your loved one.
There is an upside to making the IOS7 switch: you can now give a specific e-book as a gift directly from your Apple device. Here’s the step-by-step process for iPad. If you want to give a e-book as a gift from an iPhone, just go into the App Store app on your phone and follow instructions Step 2 and on.
Step 1: Tap the iBooks app on your iPad.
Step 2: Type the name of the e-book you want to gift in the search box, then tap on its thumbnail on the left (NOT THE PRICE BUTTON ON THE RIGHT).
A sub-window will appear with the full e-book details.
Step 3: Tap on the SHARE/AirDrop button in the upper-right-hand corner on the sub-window. It will bring up the AirDrop menu. Tap on the GIFT icon.
Step 4: Manually type the email of the recipient or choose from your Contacts address book. You can also type a personal message with a 200-character limit.
Step 5: Choose a THEME for the e-book gift email your loved one will receive.
Hope this helps you. If you’d like to give The Exes in My iPod as a gift, you can also click directly to the book from my purchase page, then follow instructions from Step 3 on. Cheers.
