Book reviews for The Exes in My iPod chick-lit romance

After a hectic winter of wine marketing prep at my day job, I finally had some time to trick out my book’s promotional information on Amazon, including the essential book reviews section.

Here’s a collection of quotes from the most recent book reviews for The Exes in My iPod: A Playlist of the Men Who Rocked Me to Wine Country:

“Mattson has made good on her promise to deliver an interesting tale of wine, sex, and pop music as ‘chick lit.'” — Roger Morris, The Daily Meal

“a humorous and gritty look at relationships.” — Erin Jimcosky, Mutineer Magazine

“…one of the best I’ve read in a long time.” — Alina Ferguson, One Girl, One Glass

“..a bit of guilty pleasure and a perfect one to curl up with and a bottle of bubbles or a rich red.”      — Amy Gross, The Vine Sleuth

“Exes in My iPod is not Cowboys are My Weakness or The Girls’ Guide to Hunting and Fishing, but lighter fare more in the vein of the Devil Wears Prada or The Nanny Diaries…”                             — Nannette Eaton, Wine Harlots

“…it’s funny (lots of quick-witted one-liner descriptions about, and nicknames for, Harley’s exes), it’s fast-moving (each chapter brings you a new song and a new series of events so it’s easy to read a single chapter at a time) and of course, it involves wine and the backdrop of beautiful Northern California wine country – what’s not to like?!”                                                                                — Lauren Cresta, Tampa Uncorked

” I thoroughly enjoyed the journey, the playlist, and the wines of Harley’s life.”                                    — Elizabeth Smith, Traveling Wine Chick

“I so love it when a book turns out to be 1000 times better than I thought it would be!”                         — Traci Wilcox, Traci’s Book Reviews

Three recommended books for single ladies on Valentine’s Day

Need some help warding off Cupid’s Grinch this Valentine’s Day? Here are some recommended books for single ladies this Valentine’s Day. I recently met authors Emily Brown and Cortney Roudebush when their books were reviewed alongside mine by a few bloggers. Both are talented, young women following their dreams in Northern California wine country–one writing women’s fiction and the other a memoir. My book is a mash-up of both–a novel based on personal dating experiences. I think you’ll find some dating life aspiration (and even a little desperation) in each of them.

cortney-book-cover-250x400About Where I Want To Be: During a weekend of wine tasting in Napa Valley, Olivia Goldstein falls in love with the beautiful landscape, the amazing wines, the friendly locals, and one particularly attractive male tour guide. For shy and introverted Olivia who never takes chances, this wonderful weekend is enough for her to make the most spontaneous and terrifying decision of her life. She puts her lackluster job in Los Angeles on hold and enrolls in a wine education program in Wine Country. But she spends the summer learning about more than just the wine industry. As soon as Olivia arrives, she meets three wine-savvy young women who encourage her to step out of her comfort zone. As she dabbles in the Napa dating pool, her awkward and often hilarious experiences teach her to appreciate her newly acquired confidence and her supportive friends. With their help, Olivia pursues a new career path and finally discovers her dream job. This is the first novel in The Wine Country Series and it is about following your passion, learning to trust your intuition, and working your way towards happiness. http://www.authorcortney.com/novel/

emily-brown-coverAbout Stories from the Sisterwives: How I Survived Dating a Sociopath: Emily Brown was a single woman in her mid-30s living in the Midwest when a Dark Prince found her online dating profile. Fearing it was now or never, she relented to his persistent persuasion and immediately began ignoring the instinctual pulls telling her something wasn’t right. Their tawdry relationship centered around guilt, shame and withholding served up by the Dark Prince until Emily put her foot down. Well, actually, she put her foot in his backpack. And that showed her all she needed to know. Emily shares the painful discovery of how the man she loved was sharing his life with other women, how she went on to befriend her “Sisterwife,” and how she found herself again. “Stories from the Sisterwives” is the remarkable true story of heartbreak, friendship, love and triumph over the darkness. http://storiesfromthesisterwives.com

dfw-lm-teimi-cover-midAbout The Exes in My iPod: When Harley Aberle got her first iPod, she created the kind of playlist every girl wants to keep on solitary lockdown. She called it The Exes—a collection of long-lost songs that instantly steamrolled her down a memory lane of men wider than a six-lane freeway. The Exes in My iPod: A Playlist of the Men Who Rocked Me to Wine Country is a no-holds-barred account of Harley’s quest to win the hearts of a motley crew of men during her twenties—that golden decade of poor judgment where college, career, alcohol and romance run a crash course. With a musical time capsule of “lucky 13” songs, Harley takes you on a rockin’ journey through laugh-out-loud heartaches and headaches, as this redneck waitress from a long line of alcoholics searches for true love and her calling in life—finding both in California wine country. Grab some earbuds, pour a glass of wine and kick back with an amusing e-book that will inspire you to create your own Exes playlist and discover the hidden beauty of all that baggage. http://exesinmyipod.com/

Book signing wine tasting events in Napa for Valentine’s Day (and Cupid’s Grinches)

Photo from CupidsLibrary.com

Get in the Valentine’s Day spirit—or ward off Cupid’s Grinch—with one of my book chat and wine tasting events happening in Napa Valley February 8 and 9. I worked at a wine importer in St. Helena while writing The Exes in My iPod: A Playlist of the Men Who Rocked Me to Wine Country, so I’m pretty psyched to head over to the “other valley” and share these dating stories with fellow wine women and old friends. Both events were featured in the Napa Valley Register this week.

Saturday, February 8, 2014, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Book chat and wine tasting with Lisa Mattson led by noted journalist and author Virginie Boone. Hosted by Silverado Vineyards, this lively Q&A discussion between with the author and Virginie Boone—a regular contributor to Wine Enthusiast and the Press Democrat, and author of Napa Valley and Sonoma: Heart of California Wine Country—includes a complimentary glass of Silverado Miller Ranch Sauvignon Blanc, which is featured in the book. Q&A begins promptly at 3 p.m. in Silverado Vineyard’s grand hall, located one level above the tasting room, followed by book signing at 3:30 p.m. This event is complimentary.

Silverado Vineyards, grand hall (upstairs)

6121 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA 94558

Please RSVP, as space is limited: http://exesinmyipodsilverado.eventbrite.com

Download a digital copy of the book ($3.99) before the event. Paperback copies ($17.99) will also be sold at the event.

Sunday, February 9, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Hosted by Domaine Chandon, this event features three female authors: Sonoma’s Lisa Mattson, The Exes in My iPod: A Playlist of the Men Who Rocked Me to Wine Country, Napa’s Emily Brown, Stories from the Sisterwives: How I Survived Dating a Sociopath, and Marin’s Cortney Roudebush, Where I Want To Be: Book One in the Wine Country Series. The event features a lively Q&A discussion, beginning at 2:30 p.m., about a range of juicy topics led by Ian White, wine country director of 7×7 magazine and creative director of Napa Valley Life’s “INK.” All three authors’ books will be available for sale, and Domaine Chandon sparkling wine will be served. This event is complimentary.

How to send a book as an iTunes gift with IOS7

When you google “how to send an iTunes book as a gift,” you’ll find many posts that say it can’t be done, including this post by CNET as recently as 10 days ago. This might have been in the case with IOS6, when book givers only had the option of sending an iTunes gift card with no link to the actual book or app you wanted to gift your loved one.

There is an upside to making the IOS7 switch: you can now give a specific e-book as a gift directly from your Apple device. Here’s the step-by-step process for iPad. If you want to give a e-book as a gift from an iPhone, just go into the App Store app on your phone and follow instructions Step 2 and on.

Step 1: Tap the iBooks app on your iPad.

iPad ibooks home screen copy

Step 2: Type the name of the e-book you want to gift in the search box, then tap on its thumbnail on the left (NOT THE PRICE BUTTON ON THE RIGHT).

A sub-window will appear with the full e-book details.

itunes gift share 2

Step 3: Tap on the SHARE/AirDrop button in the upper-right-hand corner on the sub-window. It will bring up the AirDrop menu. Tap on the GIFT icon.

Step 4: Manually type the email of the recipient or choose from your Contacts address book. You can also type a personal message with a 200-character limit.

Step 5: Choose a THEME for the e-book gift email your loved one will receive.

Hope this helps you. If you’d like to give The Exes in My iPod as a gift, you can also click directly to the book from my purchase page, then follow instructions from Step 3 on. Cheers.

Book launch party event photos from the J Winery Legacy Lounge

More than 50 guests turned out for my first book premiere event in California, hosted at J Vineyard & Winery‘s posh Legacy Lounge. Author and TV host Leslie Sbrocco led an embarrassingly funny and exciting Q&A where we aired a lot of steamy dirty laundry from the book.

I was humbled to be supported by so many women (and even a few men) whom I’ve met over the years through the wine business. A huge thank you to the staff at J–especially Kathryn, Taylor, Lindsey and the chef–who opened their hearts, their tasting salons, their kitchen and many bottles of wine to all of the event attendees. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. And I could have almost cried when Kathryn brought out a magnum of J (a personal gift from Judy Jordan) for all of the event attendees to sign for me as a memento.

The Exes in My iPod book release: new romance novel blends music, sex and wine

My official press release announcing the debut of The Exes in My iPod.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW NOVEL CHALLENGES WOMEN TO EMBRACE THE BEAUTY OF THEIR
RELATIONSHIP BAGGAGE THROUGH A PLAYLIST OF EX-BOYFRIEND SONGS

Audio-enhanced e-book is a spicy blend of bad romances, sex, music and wine

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (October 13, 2013)—Wine media veteran Lisa Mattson has released The Exes in My iPod: A Playlist of the Men Who Rocked Me to Wine Country, a novel that cleverly harnesses the emotion of music-triggered memories through audio speakers on mobile devices. Using a collection of ex-boyfriends’ songs, the book follows the dating disasters and pipe dreams of Miami transplant Harley Aberle, a redneck waitress who blossoms into a refined wine maven during her bewildering struggle to learn the difference between sex and love and the power of self-respect.

With iTunes and Pandora app song previews, The Exes in My iPod e-book editions allow readers to play clips of each song mentioned in the novel with a simple finger tap. Available in English and distributed internationally, The Exes in My iPod e-book edition ($4.99) is now available on iTunes and Amazon, with Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Diesel and Sony Reader to follow in early November. (An enhanced tablet version is also offered on iTunes for iPad owners.) The print edition ($19.99) will release in late October on Amazon and early November on Barnes & Noble websites. Links to free samples and all retail purchase pages can be found here.

“I hope this book inspires women to create their own Exes playlists and discover the hidden beauty of all that baggage,” Mattson says. “Our relationship failures make us who we are. My iPod has been the best therapist I’ve ever had. I’ve learned so much about myself and what I need in a relationship to be happy be reliving all my dating mistakes through a playlist.” Fans can find out how to create their own Exes playlist here.

Humbling yet reassuring, The Exes in My iPod: A Playlist of the Men Who Rocked Me to Wine Country is a no-holds-barred account of Harley Aberle’s quest to win the hearts of a motley crew of men during her twenties—that golden decade of poor judgment where college, career, alcohol and romance run a crash course. With a musical time capsule of 13 songs, Harley takes readers on a rockin’ journey through laugh-out-loud heartaches and headaches, as this Midwest waitress from a long line of alcoholics searches for true love and her calling in life—only to find both in California wine country.
